My dad always talked about playing baseball in Florida, Arkansas and Texas, but it wasn’t until he was well into his 80s that he told me he had also played other places, including New York. Dad was in the later stages of Alzheimer’s by then, so he didn’t say much more about it than, “New York was way too cold for this Southern Georgia boy.” It wasn’t until I discovered a photo in his scrapbook that I learned he played for the Port Chester Clippers — the 1948 Colonial League Champions.
